Ukraine’s chargé d’affaires in Brazil, Anatoliy Tkach, suggested today (28), at a press conference, that the president of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, talk by phone with the president of Ukraine, Volodmir Zelensky, to clarify what is happening in the eastern European country.
“I think the president of Brazil is misinformed. It might be interesting for him to talk to the Ukrainian president to see another position and to have a more objective view”, said Tkach, after being asked about statements given yesterday (27) by Bolsonaro about the conflict.
Tkach said he hoped Brazil would keep its position at the UNwhere the Brazilian representative, Ambassador Ronaldo Costa Filho, once again condemned the conflict, in this Mondaythis Friday (28), at the UN Emergency General Assembly.
When asked if he would like Brazil to take more action, Ukraine’s chargé d’affaires in Brazil said that he expects “greater support and greater condemnation from Brazil to Russia. We have to stop this aggression.”
“Right now, it’s not about supporting Ukraine, it’s about supporting democratic values, international law,” said the diplomat. He said the current conflict in Ukraine is not just a problem for the country itself, “but for Europe and the world”.
Tkach presented data he said was from the Ukrainian Ministry of Health, according to which 2,040 civilians, including 45 children, have been injured so far. There were also 352 deaths, including 16 children, added Ukraine’s highest authority in Brazil.
