At least 137 Ukrainians were killed during the first day of the Russian offensive, Ukrainian President Volodimir Zelensky said on Friday.
“137 heroes, our citizens” were killed, Zelensky said in a video posted on the government website, adding that another 316 Ukrainians were wounded.
Volodimir Zelensky also lamented that his country was left “alone” to defend itself against the invasion launched by the Russian army the day before.
“They have left us alone to defend our state,” Zelensky said in a video posted on the presidential account. “Who is ready to fight with us? I don’t see anyone. Who is ready to give Ukraine a guarantee of NATO membership? Everyone is afraid,” he lamented.
