“The world is horrified by today’s Russian missile attack, which hit a shopping mall in Ukraine – packed with people – the latest in a series of atrocities,” said US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
The Russian army attacked -with a missile- this Monday a shopping center in the city of Kremenchuk, Ukraine, leaving a dozen dead and more than 40 people injured. According to President Vlodomir Zelenski, more than 1,000 civilians were inside the building.
“Russian occupiers launched missile attacks on a shopping mall with more than 1,000 civilians inside. The mall is on fire. Rescue teams are extinguishing the fire. It is impossible to even imagine the number of victims,” Zelensky wrote on his Telegram channel.
Zelensky emphasized that this facility did not pose a threat to the Russian military. “No strategic value. Just the people’s attempt to live a normal life, which makes the occupiers so angry. Russia continues to displace its impotence on ordinary citizens. It is useless to hope for their adequacy and humanity,” he added.
For his part, Kyrylo Tymoshenko, Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, reported on the first figures handled by the government “we know about 20 wounded, 9 of them in serious condition. It has already been confirmed that 2 people died, ”he wrote on Telegram.
Zelensky’s deputy office chief added that a rescue operation is working at the scene. “The mall is on fire, firefighters are trying to extinguish the fire, the number of victims is impossible to imagine,” he added.
While the mayor of the town, Vitaliy Meletskiy, added for his part on Facebook that the shopping center was a “very crowded” place and assured that “there are dead and injured”, without specifying.
