Ukraine and Russia carried out a prisoner exchange. Both the Russian and Ukrainian military are injured or ill and both governments will receive treatment, assistance and rehabilitation
The head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Andreii Yermak, announced on April 10 the return of 100 prisoners of war from his country who had been captured by the Russians, in a new exchange with Russia.
Among the released Ukrainian soldiers are soldiers of the land army, sailors, border guards and members of the National Guard. Some of them were imprisoned at the Azovstal steelworks in Mariupol, captured by Russia in May last year after months of siege.
“We have managed to carry out another great prisoner exchange”Yermak, the head of the Ukrainian presidential office, announced on his Telegram account. “We will do everything necessary so that each of them receives the necessary help,” added the senior Ukrainian official.
Some of those released are sick or injured, explained Yermak, who described this exchange of prisoners with Russia as “difficult” and thanked the work of the Ukrainian president, Volodimir Zelensky, in the release of these soldiers.
The head of Zelenski’s office had words of appreciation for the relatives of those released. “Waiting is always a difficult and distressing process,” Yermak wrote.
