The Federal University of Recôncavo da Bahia (UFRB) opened the institution’s first radio station, in the city of Cruz das Almas (BA). The inauguration represents the consolidation of the expansion movement of the National Public Communication Network (RNCP), based on joint efforts with the Brazilian Communication Company (EBC)the Social Communication Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic (Secom/PR) and the Ministry of Communications (Mcom).
At this first moment, UFRB FM 87.1 will retransmit the signal from Rádio Nacional. The agreement, signed last year, has an initial duration of ten years and provides for the adoption of joint actions aimed at the implementation, operation and transmission of sound and image broadcasting.
The general director of EBCMaíra Bittencourt, participated in the inauguration ceremony, last Thursday (21). Secom/PR advisor Octavio Pieranti was also present. “This is a very important moment of delivery, in a region that stands to gain a lot from this new radio. With each new broadcaster implemented, public communication arrives to dialogue with new territories”, explains Bittencourt.
“This is an important achievement for us, for the management, for the structure of the university. But it is also an important milestone in the sense that we get closer, we relate in a deeper, more fluid way, with our community and our territory”, said the dean of UFRB, Georgia Gonçalves, on a social network.
Provided for in the Law of Creation of EBCRNCP is made up of TV and Radio stations that operate throughout the country, providing culture and information for millions of Brazilians. THE EBC is responsible for forming its network and investing in strengthening and expanding it. In 2024 the growth in the number of contracts was over 234%.
Currently, 72 television generators and 43 radio generators are in operation. THE EBC has been working with affiliates to implement 173 new stations in the coming years.
