UFMG seeks volunteers to study antivirals against covid-19

Researchers at the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) are looking for volunteers for an unprecedented study that wants to understand the functioning of antiviral molecules, enabling the development of new drugs against covid-19. The call is for anyone between 18 and 50 years of age, healthy and showing symptoms of the disease that started less than four days before.UFMG seeks volunteers to study antivirals against covid-19

The researchers want to understand, for example, how, and at what speed, the reduction of the virus occurs from the use of antivirals. According to UFMG, the proposal is to develop a platform for antiviral studies, understanding how molecules work, and not just whether they are effective.

The clinical study is a partnership between the Center for Advanced and Innovative Therapies (CT Therapies) at UFMG with groups from the University of Oxford (United Kingdom) and Mahidol University (Thailand). Funding is from the Wellcome Trust, a philanthropic institution that supports research in the health area. Analyzes already carried out in Asia are the basis for the new project developed in Brazil.

To volunteer, contact the CT Therapies team at (31) 99509-7634.
