The European Football Confederation, UEFA, called an extraordinary meeting on Friday to “evaluate the situation” concerning Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, launched on Thursday, while the Champions League final is scheduled for St. Petersburg on May 28, UEFA announced on Thursday.
The European football body will meet its executive committee this Friday at 10:00 to “make all the necessary decisions,” he announced in a statement.
This emergency meeting comes after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson declared on Tuesday that there was no “no chance” that Russia can host football competitions international in the coming weeks.
The final of the Champions League, the main club competition in Europe, is scheduled for May 28 at the Gazprom Arena in St. Petersburg, in Russia, a country that was the organizer of the 2018 World Cup.
