After it was reported that the Government has granted 296 grace pensions to those who reported having suffered a job impairment as a result of the action of State agents, within the framework of the demonstrations of the social outbreak of 2019, the deputies of the UDI, Henry Leal and Juan Manuel Fuenzalida, decided to officiate at the Ministry of the Interior to know the criteria that have been adopted during the process, especially considering that the current administration decided to increase the amounts of the subsidies, reaching in some cases $515,672 per month.
But in addition to the criteria for granting the pensions, the trade union parliamentarians also requested that it be reported if there are any of the current beneficiaries who are formalized or convicted of acts of violence, warning that “it would be absolutely shameful and unacceptable that among those favored with pensions Of grace are the members of the front line or those who for months dedicated themselves to attacking Carabineros and setting our country on fire”.
“The Government has the obligation to explain what are the criteria that it is applying to spend almost $1,500 million a month to pay grace pensions to certain people chosen within four walls. The logical thing would be to wait for the resolution of the courts of justice to determine if someone suffered some type of violation of their rights, but consider them a priori as ‘victims’ and grant them a pension for life overnight, just for presenting a complaint, requires a serious explanation by the authorities”, questioned the UDI deputies.
Along these lines, Leal and Fuenzalida added that “we are going to exercise all the actions that we have at our disposal to find out if any of the beneficiaries participated in the serious acts of vandalism that occurred in our country”, insisting that “putting the interests of the Octobrism and the first line over the thousands of merchants and tenants who looted or burned their jobs, or the hundreds of victims of rural violence that occur daily in the South Macrozone, confirms how far from the reality that the current government is”.
For the same reason, the union deputies did not rule out requesting the creation of an investigative commission in the Chamber of Deputies, precisely to investigate if the beneficiaries actually suffered some type of labor impairment and are not involved in any judicial process for acts of violence or criminal acts. In addition to knowing the plans and programs that the Government has to compensate the tenants affected during the outbreak and the victims of rural violence.
“The Government, unilaterally and with no transparency, is not only granting almost 300 grace pensions to people whose background nobody knows, but has also decided to increase the amounts in the midst of the serious economic crisis we are experiencing. And all this, to the detriment of the merchants and victims of rural violence. Therefore, we are going to exercise all the actions that we have within our reach if this decision is not well justified”, warned parliamentarians Leal and Fuenzalida.
