The Association of Teachers of the University of the Republic (ADUR) plans to make two occupations in faculties this week, in addition to a 24-hour strikeall on different days.
The teachers claim “in defense of the budget” from the University of the Republic (Udelar), “against the policy of cuts and salary lossfor better study and work conditions” and “in defense of the right to education”.
At 7:00 p.m. this Monday, the Extended Federal Council of ADUR will be held together with the teaching associations of the Cenur (Regional University Centers, that is, from the interior). In this assembly some details will be finalized such as, for example, which faculty will be occupied next Thursday, September 22, he detailed to The Observer the president of ADUR, Héctor Cancela.
At the same time, the Secretary of Communication of the Federation of University Students of Uruguay (FEUU), Andrés Fernández, confirmed to The Observer that the students plan to accompany ADUR in the measures announced for this week. “There may be some more activity in another faculty, not of the occupation style, but propaganda,” said Fernández.

Tuesday 20
The Intergremial of Humanities, which ADUR and FEUU integrate, will occupy the Faculty of Humanities and Educational Sciences (FHCE). In this framework, teachers will also go on strike, so there will be no classes this day in that educational center.
In addition, there will be a street court in Magallanes between Uruguay and Paysandú (in front of the faculty).
There will be open classes, workshops, talks with social groups in conflict and a musical closing with various bands.
The occupation will extend from 9:00 to 21:00.
Wednesday 21
ADUR will carry out a 24-hour strike, so no faculty will have classes that day. The FEUU, UTHC (Union of Workers of the Hospital of Clinics) and Affur (Federal Association of Officials of the University of the Republic) also organize this measure.
From 10:00, teachers will attend Parliament and they will appear in the Budget and Finance Committee of the Senate, where the Accountability project is discussed.
Later there will be, again, open classes, workshops and samples (from 15:30). Starting at 19:00 there will be an act of the General Assembly of the Senate in the Paraninfo of the university and, an hour later, they will concentrate on the esplanade of the university. The University Intergremial will hold an act at 8:00 p.m. and at 8:30 p.m. there will be bands playing live.
