UCV students rejected Ricardo Sánchez’s visit to the Faculty of Engineering

UCV authorities reject police intrusion on campus

The UCV students demanded that Ricardo Sánchez apply concrete solutions to the problems that exist in the University City

The student representation of the Faculty of Engineering of the Central University of Venezuela (UCV) expressed his rejection and dissatisfaction with the visit made on Wednesday, January 15, by the Minister of University Education, Ricardo Sánchez, to that university since, in his opinion, it was more for political reasons than out of a real interest in solving the problems that affect them.

The text indicates the students’ exhortation to Sánchez to take action on the matter and take concrete actions to guarantee decent conditions for those who live at the UCV to study and work, since they stressed that higher education is a fundamental pillar for development. of the country.

In this sense, they highlight that the salaries of teachers and workers do not meet their basic needs; The amount of a university student’s current scholarship does not even cover transportation for a week of classes; There is deterioration of the infrastructure and lack of materials and equipment necessary for academic activities.

In addition, they criticized the fact that Sánchez did not approve the budget to implement the intensive course in July 2024, so UCV students had to pay administrative expenses; that were not very affordable for them.

In the statement, the students demanded concrete actions that guarantee decent conditions to study and work. They also highlighted that higher education must be a pillar for the development of the country, free of political manipulations.

They called on the UCV community to remain alert to any action that seeks to distort the values of the campus and highlighted the promotion of dialogue and other actions that can benefit the community.

Ricardo Sánchez’s visit to the UCV occurs in a context of complaints about the police “circle” that state security officials have in that university; which was reported by the Faculty of Dentistry.

This, in his opinion, generates fear and restricts the academic freedom of the community that lives on campus.

In a statement, said Faculty warns that, instead of providing security, the presence of the troops turns them into “hostages of a system that fears the truth and constructive criticism,” in addition to affecting well-being, concentration and development. of the activities at the UCV due to the tension produced by their stay at the entrances of the campus.
