The UCV indicated that December was a very dry month compared to the institution’s average
Valdemar Andrade, engineer and expert in Hydrometeorology at the Central University of Venezuela (UCV), indicated this Friday, December 27, that 2024 closed as a “very rainy” year, however, in most months it was very dry.
In an interview granted to Union RadioAndrade explained that, according to the accumulated rain, it could be said that this year was quite rainy and warned that the month of December has been very dry compared to the accumulated data in more than 70 years.
«In general terms, the accumulated rain, one could classify that it has been a fairly rainy year, especially due to the rains in the months of August and September, which were extraordinary. This December has been quite dry compared to the average, which is 44mm and to date we have 15mm. and it seems that it is not going to rain considerably in the remainder of the year,” indicated the UCV expert.

He pointed out that the “La Niña” phenomenon, although it is already in Venezuela, is still in a transitory stage and that is why the rains in this period have been below normal, as well as adding that the high temperatures with the that began the year generated drought and forest fires; situation that changed in August and September.
The UCV report for November 2024 indicates that that month was classified as “rainy” and close to the “extreme rainy” range, after showing about 159.9 millimeters (mm), equivalent to 159.59 liters per square meter (Lt/m2).
For December, the department indicated that the start of the dry season was expected in the country and predicted that, although the deployment of the La Niña phenomenon was expected since October, it has not yet manifested itself in all its extent and intensity.
A scenario of rainfall between 20 and 60 mm is also estimated with an average rainfall of eight days. It is also not expected that landslides or movements of soil masses will be recorded, nor is it predicted that any falling trees will be evident. However, the drought in the country opens the possibility of forest fires.
