San Pedro de Macorís.- The Central Eastern University (UCE) celebrates its 55th anniversary of founding, reaffirming its commitment to the formation of professionals competent authorities and the sustainable development of the Dominican Republic.
Founded on October 15, 1970 by Dr. José A. Hazim Azar and a group of visionary collaborators, the UCE emerged in response to the need to offer quality higher education to the young people of the east of the country.
Since then, UCE has graduated more than 60 thousand national and foreign professionals in various areas of knowledge.
For more than five decades, the university has consolidated its academic leadership through higher technical, undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing education programs, organized in six faculties: Health Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Sciences and Humanities, Administrative Sciences, Legal Sciences, and Architecture and Art.
Throughout its history, the UCE has developed the scholarship program “UCE Excellence”, aimed at recognizing academic merit and offers study opportunities to outstanding students.
In the last 15 years, more than 8 thousand scholarshipsreflecting the institution’s firm commitment to educational equity and the development of high-performance leaders.
This year, the institution achieved two momentous achievements. Its School of Medicine obtained international accreditation by the CAAM-HPa seal that certifies its quality and global competitiveness.
In addition, the UCE received a QS Stars certificationachieving 5 stars in Good Government and 4 stars in Teaching, Online Teaching and Employability.
As part of the celebration, The Universidad Central del Este held a launch event that was attended by members of the founding familyheaded by Dr. José Hazim Frappier, president of the Higher University Council, and José Hazim Torres, rector of the university.
They were accompanied by academic authorities, graduates, students and representatives of the media. The activity took place in an atmosphere of deep emotion, celebration and gratitude.
