Two people died and 18 were injured this noon after a collapse of rocks in the Velo de la Bride tourist center, located in the province of Father Abad, Ucayali region.
The fatal victims were identified as a child under 8 and an older adult named Carlos César García Casanova, Channel N reported.
The accident occurred while a group of visitors was in the place, specifically in the bathing area of the natural attraction.
According to preliminary reports, the rocks suddenly detached themselves from the upper part of the site, directly impacting the people who were in the area.
The injured were initially served at the Boquerón Health Center and then transferred to Medical Establishments of Aguaytía for evaluation. Some of them remain under observation, while determining whether they need to be referred to the Pucallpa Amazon Hospital for greater specialization.
Given what happened, the Regional Government of Ucayali ordered the temporary closure of the bride’s veil as a preventive measure. A technical delegation moved to the area to evaluate the causes of the collapse and analyze the security conditions of the place.
The authorities indicated that the reopening of the site will depend on the guarantee of the land stability and risks of new detachments are discarded.
