The medical specialists at Hospital II Pucallpa of EsSalud Ucayali saved the life of a one-year-old child who arrived at the emergency area of said hospital with severe abdominal pain, vomiting and prolonged crying due to excessive pain.
The staff carried out the corresponding tests and his diagnosis was iIntestinal intussusception with consequences of generalized sepsis and upper gastrointestinal bleeding.
Dr. Richard Mathews Paredes, general surgeon at EsSalud Ucayali, explained that the pain and all the symptoms of the child were due to the fact that a part of his small intestine was introduced into itself.
This intestinal obstruction is a medical emergency that mostly affects minors. In this sense, a surgical intervention was carried out that consists of extracting a part of the intestine and then reconstructing it, so that it does not reintroduce itself and does not obstruct food.
After the operation, which lasted about 4 hours, the one-year-old boy was reunited with his mother, who, very excited, pointed out that now she will be able to return to her home with her son. He thanked everyone who was involved in the little boy’s operation.
“I went through a lot of hardship when I found out about my son, the doctors gave me a lot of hope and now my son is healthy, we are very grateful,” said mother Anai Juárez Vela.
