The Andrés Bello Catholic University (UCAB) offered on Thursday to organize the primary elections to choose the opposition presidential candidate for the 2024 elections.
«The center would collaborate in organizing primaries if that opportunity is given to us. We have studied electoral issues a lot, we have written about it and we are available for whatever is asked of us. If we are asked to participate and help organize, we will do so with great pleasure”, said the director of the UCAB Center for Political and Government Studies, Benigno Alarcón.
According to reviewed We monitor, the academic believes that the primaries should not be organized by the National Electoral Council (CNE). For him, in the country there are “many people who do not trust the Electoral Power”, which would make Venezuelans “not participate in the primaries.”
Alarcón, said the media, stressed that the primaries should be inclusive in which all political leaders who aspire to the Presidency participate.
Opposition works on an agreement for the primaries
Precisely on Thursday Primero Justicia (PJ) reported that they are working to achieve a agreement ahead of the primary elections, in which it is decided who will be the opposition candidate who will face Chavismo in 2024.
In fact, Tomás Guanipa himself assured that the political party is working on electoral regulations that will allow guarantees for anyone who wants to participate in possible presidential primaries.
“In order for us to win the presidential elections we have to go out and organize ourselves, we are already making the rules, I think that everyone who aspires to be president should go out and tour the country and build their alliances and it is also important to set a date, so that people know when you are going to choose it,” he said.
Guanipa insisted that politicians must defend that the will of the people be fulfilled and that, from now on, “no candidate” for elected positions “is decided by a bud (group)”.
