UCAB bets on the training of gamers in its new e.Sports academy

The rector of the UCAB, José Virtuoso, believes that this e.Sports academy shows the versatility of the university and meets a need of the youngest. The arena has 20 PC gamers and 10 video game consoles

The Andrés Bello Catholic University (UCAB) inaugurated this Thursday, July 8, the e.Sports Academy in order to professionally train the gamers Venezuelans and all those who are involved in the world of highly competitive cyber sports.

This initiative, attached to the International Center for Professional Updating (CIAP) and the university’s Sports Department, offers the possibility of integrating video games with the business, managerial and academic spheres through courses, workshops and diplomas, as well as design and implementation of strategies for competitions.

With a FIFA 22 exhibition match, in which four members of the e-Vinotinto team and their technical director participated, the activities of this new academy dedicated to e.Sports began. Representatives of various private companies, such as Empresas Polar, were also present.

For the rector of the UCAB, José Virtuoso, he considers that there is a double opportunity because it shows the capacity of this university to diversify and venture into non-traditional studies and allow young people interested in e.Sports to have a place to compete, practice and form, according to Press release.

For his part, the administrative vice-chancellor, Gustavo García, pointed out that the academy is the place that facilitates the “expression of the innovation purposes that UCAB has” currently and that its beginning is to recognize that there are areas of knowledge that are emerging and the adaptability to these concerns, such as technological development and this type of initiative such as e.Sports.

Juan Sánchez, director of Sports at the university, is in charge of this new Academy and affirmed that in Venezuela there is no room like the one that was inaugurated at UCAB. «The idea of this arena is that you have the experience of a professional player. It is a comfortable space to train, compete and train », he said.

The arena of the training center, located in the Cinquantenario building of the UCAB campus in Montalbán, was designed and decorated under a gamer aesthetic and is equipped with 20 PC gamers, five Xbox and five PS 5, as well as a special connection to the Internet, technology necessary for amateurs and experts to learn and put their skills into practice.
