A member of the security team of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) passed away this Saturday after being hospitalized since last Thursday, October 16, when he was seriously injured during a shooting on the academy’s central campus.
The university confirmed the death through a release published on his official account xin which he expressed his regret for the loss of the collaborator.
“With deep sadness, we inform the unfortunate death of Lyedgers Tameydshi Encarnación Peñaa member of the security team who was injured in the incident that occurred last Thursday, October 16 on the university campus of our Headquarters,” the institution indicated.
“His mourning game to the university community and their families, to whom we send our most heartfelt condolences and solidarity,” added the UASD.
How the events occurred
He shooting It occurred on Thursday afternoon in the headquarters from the university, as a result of a previous conflict between the law student Alexander Jimenez Galvan35 years old, and members of the security staff.
He Public Ministry requested yesterday preventive detention against Jiménez Galván, alias Alex, whom he accuses of attempted murder and illegal possession of a firearm.
As explained by communications director of the UASD, Roberto Tejada Muñozthe altercation originated the night before, when Jiménez Galván was surprised by agents Lyedgers Peña Encarnación and Juan Manuel Méndez parked in a dark and restricted area of the campus.
“The young man had a situation with security because of the place where parked his vehicle. His documents were retained on campus. When returning to pick them up (on Thursday), the incident occurred,” Tejada explained.
He returned armed and accompanied
According to university authorities, the student returned the next day allegedly accompanied by another person and with a 12 gauge shotgun in your vehicle. After recovering his documents, he went to another area of the premises where opened fire.
During the shootingboth security agents were injured. Peña Encarnación received gunshot wounds that caused serious injuries, for which he was transferred to the Dominican Cuban Medical Centerwhere he remained hospitalized until his death. Meanwhile, Juan Manuel Méndez was injured in the hand and was subjected to a surgical intervention.
After shooting, the attacker tried to escapebut it was intercepted by students who witnessed the event. He was later handed over to security personnel and then to the National Police.
