The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) today confirmed its 15% to 15% to the teachers’ salary increase, as of September of this year and called the Federation of Associations of Teachers of the UASD (FAPROUASD) to dialogue on the subject.
Yesterday, Faprouasd initiated a general teaching strike in all the enclosures, centers and sub -centers of the UASD in demand of a salary increase of 30% and other claims.
UASD offers a salary increase of 15% to teachers and calls for dialogue with faprouasd
The decision was adopted during a general assembly held in the Paraninfo of the Faculty of Humanities and it was stated that the University Council approved a resolution ordering the immediate salary increase.
Called to dialogue
Pablo Valdez, general secretary of the Academy, a state, recognized the right of teachers to ask for a salary increase, but without affecting teaching.
“Prior to any decision that is contrasted with our reason for being, which is teaching, a period of dialogue must be established,” said Valdez, on behalf of the rector, Beltrán Editrudis.
“Before reaching the end of the suspension of teaching, there must be a period of dialogue. The teaching stoppage is the last thing to be used,” insisted the academy official.
He indicated that teaching paralyzes are contrary to the mandates of the Organic Institute of the Academy.
More claims
Other demands of the Uasdian teachers guild demands the immediate appointment of teachers who won competitions and who have taught for years without being formally designated. Likewise, the University Council exercises its role as the highest governing body of the University.
Likewise, a pronouncement of the University Council on the alleged risks and dangers that threaten the UASD for the Fusion Project of the Ministries of Education (MINERD) and Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT).
On resolution
Pablo Valdez said that there is no resolution in which the Rector Beltrán undertakes to make the salary increase in the required amount.
He said the rector only promised to manage the necessary resources to complace the request of Faprousd before the central government.
“The rector made all the efforts and could not achieve what they demanded,” said Valdez.
He added that “the rector, making an institutional effort, has recognized an increase of 15%, starting in September,” said the official.
Faprouasd accused Beltrán of running over the institutionality of the UASD by not fulfilling a commitment that he would have assumed.
The teacher strike occurs just two days after having initiated teaching for the second academic semester corresponding to this year.
The situation would force university authorities to extend the class period.
