Santo Domingo.-The Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), through the Vice-Rector for Research and Postgraduate Studies, inaugurated this Tuesday the Third International Congress of Research, Development and Innovation, under the motto “Science at the Service of Society”, dedicated to the outstanding academic, Luis Gómez Pérez.
The rector of the Academy, Editrudis Beltrán Crisóstomo, when leading the opening ceremony, highlighted that once again the UASD opens its doors to the benefits that science offers in terms of research and innovation, “to provide answers to different problems and challenges that arise before us as humanity.”
He indicated that the true role of academies is to generate knowledge to put it at the service of societies and train the professionals of the future in scientific skills, “that allow them to generate knowledge and offer solutions in their different professional areas.”

“I am pleased to open this Third International Congress of Research, Development and Innovation, which was born in the current academic management, and in which the UASD will be the center of debates, presentations, and research around innovation that guarantees the development sustainability of our societies around research,” Beltrán highlighted.
He urged the organizers and those who will participate in the congress activities to “continue doing science from the academy, thus guaranteeing the validity of knowledge to put it at the service of innovation and development.
Meanwhile, the vice-rector Radhamés Silverio González, explained that the Strategic Management Plan authored by the rector Beltrán Crisóstomo, has defined research as one of the priority axes, which has supported a series of initiatives led by the Vice-rector for Research and Postgraduate, with the technical support of the General Directorate of Scientific and Technological Research, deaneries, schools and institutes and other instances of the Academy.
Silverio González highlighted that the UASD, as a higher education institution, ratifies its commitment to the scientific, technological, economic, social and cultural development of the Dominican Republic.
“This congress also reflects the UASD’s commitment to academic excellence and the strengthening of its leadership in the research field,” said the vice chancellor.
He explained part of the achievements achieved by that Vice-Rector’s Office, including 195 research projects, publication of 129 articles in indexed journals, 192 proposals to Fondocyt between 223 and 2024, registration of 3 new patents, and application of 140 teachers to the National Career of Researchers, as well as 1,500 trained and trained.
Also, implementation of 8 Doctorate programs with degrees awarded by the UASD, launch of 5 new academic journals on the scientific publications portal and 5 new research institutes and 4 that are in process.
It was up to the dean of Economic and Social Sciences, Antonio Ciriaco Cruz, to read the profile of Dr. Luis Gómez Pérez, in which he highlighted the professor’s extensive career both in the teaching area and in his performance in administrative functions at the UASD, including the director of the UASD Center of Santiago de los Caballeros.
As explained in a statement, this congress reaffirms the commitment of the Primate of America to institutional development, research and the training of professionals in the country, and is a unique opportunity for researchers, students and the general public to interact with experts. in various areas and learn about the most recent advances in science and technology.
During the development of the international conclave, more than 300 conferences will be presented, which will be given by experts from the nine faculties, and from the research institutes of the UASD and other foreign universities, in which key topics will be addressed to face the challenges contemporaries and promote the impact of scientific knowledge on social transformation.
The congress was inaugurated with the keynote conference “Marxism in the 21st Century: Validity and Perspectives”, by the renowned Spanish academic Xabier Arrizabalo, professor at the Complutense University of Madrid. In this dissertation, the academic analyzes the role of the working class in modern societies, highlighting the relevance of Marxist thought to interpret and transform current social reality.
The event opened in the Manuel del Cabral auditorium, of the Pedro Mir Library and took place in the “Miguel Rosado Montes de Oca” High Technology Laboratories, of the UASD, during the 20th and 21st of this month, at from 8:00 in the morning to 5:00 in the afternoon, with the offer of 239 oral presentations, 67 virtual presentations, 58 posters, 2 conferences and 2 workshops.
In addition to Rector Beltrán, the opening ceremony of the conclave was attended by members of the University Council, school directors and administrative officials of the Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences of the UASD, and the community of academics, researchers and university specialists. national and international, in a space for dialogue and exchange of knowledge.
