The Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo (UAEH) inaugurated the activities of the 35th edition of the University Book Fair (FUL) 2022, to be held from August 26 to September 4. During this period, more than 500 activities will be carried out, of which nearly 300 will be editorial presentations and to which will be added conferences, workshops, and specialized programs.
After two years of being held virtually as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic, the highest house of studies in Hidalgo officially started “La Feria De Todos” in person, which will have Hungary as the guest of honor and will address the theme “Water for life” as an axis. The participation of that nation in the FUL was an opportunity to celebrate the “Hungarian Culture Week in Mexico”.
The rector of the UAEH, Adolfo Pontigo Loyola, made the ribbon cutting accompanied by Atilano Rodríguez Pérez, secretary of Public Education of Hidalgo; and also accompanied by the Hungarian ambassador, Zóltan Németh.
The university and government authorities moved to the “Josefina García Quintanar” Auditorium to carry out the opening ceremony, where recognition was given to the writer Rafael Pérez Gay, who was awarded the “Juan Crisóstomo Doria Award for the Humanities” for his extensive trajectory in the letters.
Rafael Pérez Gay is a Mexican writer, journalist, academic, narrator and essayist who addresses issues such as the fragility of life, human relationships, personal transformations and time, as well as founder and editorial director of “Ediciones Cal y Arena”. Although he was unable to attend physically due to force majeure, this award will be given to him later.
Pontigo Loyola thanked the teacher Pérez Gay for allowing this house of studies to praise his great career, as he stated that “it has been a decisive piece in understanding the future of our time, of various artistic and political aspects, with all its ups and downs”.
The president of this Fair, Marco Antonio Alfaro Morales, stressed that through this festival of letters, the Autonomous University of Hidalgo not only becomes the hotbed of readers, but also contributes to building a better, freer and fuller world. in favor of reinforcing the social cohesion that has been worn away by various factors.
In his speech, the Hungarian ambassador, Zóltan Németh, was pleased to be able to be present at this fair after hard work coordinated with the UAEH, since the FUL is one of the most significant spaces dedicated to books and culture, for so all the activities were carefully thought out to expose the best of Hungarian culture, but at the same time, share their experience in water matters to contribute to the promotion of specific actions for the defense of the vital liquid.
Similarly, a video was presented in which the former president of Hungary, János Áder, explained that although this country is rich in water and they know the benefits of this resource, in recent years they have faced a series of problems such as scarcity or contamination. , which is why they have implemented technological innovations that they are willing to share with the world to address these same issues that occur in other latitudes, in order to improve people’s quality of life.
International Pavilion “Margarita Michelena”
Later, the authorities toured the Poliforum facilities to immediately inaugurate the “Margarita Michelena” International Pavilion, where the “Hungarian Culture Week in Mexico” also began, which will last until December.
There, the Hungarian ambassador, Zóltan Németh, offered an explanation of the exhibitions that can be visited during these ten days of FUL activities. Among them is a sample of stained glass windows by the artist Roth Miksa, an exhibition of old photographs, among which is one of the city of Pachuca and Mineral del Monte dating from 1857.
Hungarian porcelain and embroidery are also shown, which are very characteristic of that nation, as they are embodied between fabrics and ruffles. Likewise, there is a handicrafts stand and another on educational information from the country that is the guest of honor at this Fair.
“It seems to me that the Fair is a great meeting, since it is very interesting to see the new dynamics that are developing, since it does not feel the same to hold this literary festival virtually,” said Ambassador Zóltan Németh.
“La Feria De Todos” will maintain its quality plagued by personalities that will accompany its development, in addition to holding events aimed at professionals, such as the University Conference on Library Science, the Translators’ Meeting, IlustraFUL and the FULTubers Meeting. To this will be added the Third Poetry Meeting, the FUL Children and the Reading Marathon.
During FUL 2022, it will return to the face-to-face modality, which is considered one of the highest sports fairs of the entity: the Athletic Race. In its 17th edition, it will be 8 kilometers long and will take place on August 28, at 8:00 a.m., starting from Avenida Juárez, at the height of the Preparatory School Number One, in Pachuca, Hidalgo.
The “Abundio Martínez” Artistic Forum will shine with the presence of the Symphony Orchestra of the Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo (OSUAEH) that will celebrate its 25th anniversary, the Compañía Mítica de Zancos, a recital by the Jalisco Quartet, the productions “De puro huapango ” and “Fiesta del mariachi” by the artistic companies of the UAEH, classical music and dance from India, the saxophonist Dan Jaasai Mejía Pérez, among others.
Some of the personalities that stand out in the program of the university festival of letters are Sandra Becerril, Diego José, David Pastor Vico, Mónica Hernández, Elena Sevilla, Romina Sacre, Jesús Anaya Rosique, Paloma Villa, Ana García Bergua, Juan Camilo Rincón , Mariana Palova, Rafael Barajas “El Fisgón”, Carlos Cuauhtémoc Sánchez, Jorge Zarza, Héctor Arreola, Gonzalo Martré, Argelia Núñez, Xavier Velasco, Ernesto Velásquez Briseño, Pedro J. Fernández, Henry Bedwell, Elisa Quejeiro, Alejandro Tomasi, Élmer Mendoza , as well as Paco Ignacio Taibo II and Benito Taibo, among others.
