Radio Panama Writing. Two citizens were sentenced to 54 and 48 months in prison, as the main penalty, for committing the crime against economic assets, in the modality of aggravated theft, to the detriment of a tourist.
After validating a consensual sentence agreement between the Public Ministry, represented by prosecutor Zulay Batista, and lawyers from the Public Defense Institute Lourdes Pérez and Edgar López, the guarantee judge of the First Judicial Circuit of Panama, Irene Cedeño, proceeded to issue judgment No. 2338 of November 30, 2022.
During the hearing, a defender requested the replacement of the prison sentence for days of fine. By virtue of the foregoing, the main sentence of imprisonment was replaced by a 100-day fine, at a rate of B/.3.00 per day, which makes a total of B/.300.00, payable within one year to the National Treasury.
In addition, the two sanctioned citizens were imposed as an accessory penalty the payment of a fine of B/.100.00 payable to the National Treasury.
Previously, his apprehension was legalized and the formulation of charges made by the Public Ministry was considered presented.
This case is related to the apprehension of two citizens on November 28, linked to the theft of property to the detriment of a tourist, which occurred in the township of Bella Vista, at the entrance to Via Argentina.
