Two people were arrested in Ciudad Bolívar, Bolívar state, for transporting 11 specimens of the widow monkey species (Callicebus lugens) that are part of the protected fauna of Venezuela.

The arrest was made by officials of the PAC Maripa Command Support Point of Detachment 621 of the National Guard in the Sucre municipalities of Bolívar state when wildlife traffickers were transferring the animals to Táchira.

The detainees were identified as Edixon Giovany Pereira Ángulo and Alberth Yampiers Aldana Mora, who were carrying the animals in a Ford-350 truck owned by Antonio Ramírez Valera, representative of the company Zoocriadero Alazán GAC, based in the state of Táchira.

The arrest was made for the alleged crimes of smuggling, wildlife trafficking, illegal hunting and alteration of mobilization documents, which is why the detainees were placed under the command of the Public Ministry.
