Two subjects arrested for illegal hunting in Anzoátegui

Officials from the State Environmental Daycare Coordination (CEGA) and the Urban Security Detachment of the Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) arrested two men for illegally hunting specimens of wildlife.

The procedure was carried out on a farm in the Libertad municipality, central area of the Anzoátegui state, according to information released by the regional directorate of the Ministry of Ecosocialism (Minec).

Likewise, it was stated that the regional director of that ministry, Yamil Saleh, explained that the action originated when officials were patrolling in the area and found a dead juvenile deer (Odocoileus virginianus) weighing about 15 kilos, and a savannah rabbit (Sylvilagus floridanus), weighing approximately one kilo.

The officials also seized two Russian shotguns, CBG brand, without visible serial numbers, shotgun cartridges, two flashlights, a hammock, ropes and three knives: two machetes and a knife.

The director of the Ministry in the region indicated that the case was sent to the Public Ministry (MP), to Prosecutor’s Office 21 with Competence in Environmental Defense.

They highlight in the account that the caramerudo deer in our country is on the official hunting ban lists (Decree No. 1,485), a measure that was adopted by the Venezuelan State in 1996, to recover the populations of the species that had been depleted by excessive exploitation and the loss of its habitat due to human activities.
