Mexico City, Mexico.- First, on February 17 it rains dollars in front Grand Packard Hotel(where the rapper is staying Tekashi 6ix9ine), in Old Havana. Then, yesterday the 18th, two unknown persons distributed 500-peso bills to people on the street. Incredible as it may seem, someone is giving away money in Cuba. What do we know about these strange charity episodes?
The art historian and director of the magazine Cuba Contemporánea, Jorge Gómez de Mello, confirmed through their social networks who was one of those who received the unexpected gift from others.
In his publication, he explains that he was in a queue at the Panamericana store, located at the intersection of 26th and 15th streets in El Vedado, Havana, when two men (apparently Cuban) approached.
“We are approximately 16 or 18 people who protect ourselves from the sun under a tree on the other side of the street. Suddenly, two young men pass by with a handful of 500 Cuban peso bills in their hands, very quickly they give each person a bill,” the historian narrates.
Jorge incredulously asked them: “What is this?” , to which the young man replied smiling while he moved the money in the air: “Grab it there.” No one in line understood what was happening and they thought they were counterfeit bills. “I take the bill, I touch it several times with my fingertips and I look at it without leaving my astonishment, when I look up I see that the men kept walking fast until they disappeared,” says the Cuban.
It was too good to be true, so people were still not passing judgment on the “miracle” they just enjoyed.
“People in the queue, not really understanding what is happening, gape at each other, hold the bills up to the light to check the watermarks, compare the serial numbers with each other, and euphorically begin to say: ‘It’s amazing! real money, gentlemen!’ and they laugh nervously in the middle of a murmur of surprise that grows”, adds Jorge.
This was not the only episode reported. In the same publication, the independent journalist Mirian Celaya wrote: “Here, on Carlos III avenue, right across the street from my house, a couple of men also distributed 500 CUP pesos bills.”
It does not seem coincidental that these peculiar deliveries are taking place just when the controversial American rapper Daniel Hernández, artistically known as Tekashi 6ix9ine. Who, among things, is known for throwing money.
Even so, we do not know if these acts are the responsibility of the young man or if others take advantage of their stay on the island to do so. Until now Tekashi has not confirmed his participation in any of these episodes, and for his part Cuban authorities they separated him from the rain of dollars in Old Havana.
