Two soldiers arrested for trafficking public goods from Venezuela

The Public Ministry reported that two soldiers were detained for their alleged responsibility in the “illicit trafficking of strategic material” while guarding a Caracas Metro depot. Through a press release, the Ministry revealed that the military received the sum of $1,500 for the illegal sale of the aforementioned material.


The Public Ministry reported on the arrest of two military members of a National Guard (GN) command, for their alleged responsibility in the “illicit trafficking of strategic material” of the Caracas Metro, which belongs to the Public Administration.

In a press release, the Public Ministry explained that the officials were detained in a warehouse belonging to the state underground transport company, after the arrest and prior confession of five other people who were transporting the material, who explained that they had obtained it illegally in a place guarded by the military apprehended.

The officials were arrested on February 11, after a police force stopped the group that was transporting the “heavy load with ferrous material (bars)” on a highway in the country.

The Public Ministry revealed that the military, in charge of the installation’s security, received the sum of 1,500 dollars for the illegal sale of the material they guarded.

The officials were accused of the crimes of “illicit trafficking of strategic materialcriminal association and misappropriation of public property” and will remain in jail in Miranda.

This case is related to the arrest of seven men and recovery of more than 3,800 kilograms of “strategic material”recently reported by the Ministry of Justice, which did not specify that two of the apprehended were military nor did it reveal the identity of those involved.
