The substitute criminal judge of the 27th Shift, María Sol Bellomo, decided to imprison the soldiers Rombys and Maciel, for a crime of “very especially aggravated homicide in real repetition, with crimes of abuse of authority against the detainees.”
Likewise, the magistrate ordered the medical review of the defendants to assess whether they are fit, from the point of view of their health, to serve their sentence in a detention center.
Luis “Nucho” Batalla Piedrabuena was a construction worker and member of the Christian Democratic Party (PDC), one of the founders of the Broad Front in 1971.
He died after being subjected to torture in the barracks of the department of Treinta y Tres, in May 1972, before the coup d’état of June 27, 1973.

“We salute the ruling of the 27th Shift Criminal Court of First Instance prosecuting those who the prosecutor for Crimes Against Humanity, Dr. Ricardo Perciballe, pointed out as perpetrators of the murder, in the Treinta y Tres barracks, in our colleague from the PDC, Luis Batalla”, expressed the Christian Democratic Party through a statement.
“50 years have passed, but justice arrives. The fight for truth and justice has these victories. We will continue in the fight!”, declared the PDC.
