Since face-to-face classes began nationwide, at least two schools located in the Arequipa and Iquitos regions have had to close their doors after schoolchildren, teachers and workers tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19).
CLASSES SUSPENDED IN AREQUIPA SCHOOL
As reported by the director of the American Independence School in Arequipa, Walter Ramos, to RPP Noticias, a first grade high school student tested positive for coronavirus, so classes were suspended for this week. “The student’s mother confirmed to us that he tested positive and we immediately activated the protocols and it was decided to suspend face-to-face work until Friday, March 25 “.
According to the Ministry of Education (Minedu), when a positive COVID-19 case is detected in a school, an epidemiological fence must be established in the student’s classroom, suspending face-to-face classes in the classroom, not in the entire institution.
In this regard, Ramos explained that they made the decision to suspend classes throughout the institution because teachers rotate from class to class and could spread the virus. In addition, they have ordered that rooms, corridors, toilets, among other areas, be fumigated and ventilated.
CLASSES SUSPENDED IN IQUITOS SCHOOL
Meanwhile, the Cuna Jardín Corazón de Jesús school, located in Iquitos, suspended face-to-face classes after five workers, including teachers and administrative staff, tested positive for coronavirus. In order not to affect schoolchildren, lessons are taught in virtual mode.
“Once the positive results of COVID-19 were known, we, in coordination with the Minsa, have drawn up a protocol. First quarantine the five people, disinfection of the environments and recommendations on the use of a mask, hand washing and others “, director Betty Ángulo explained to TV Perú Noticias.
