Two prisoners died at dawn this Thursday and another three were injured after a fire in module 4 of the Santiago Vázquez jail (exComcar), as reported at a press conference by the director of Coexistence and Citizen Security, Santiago González.
Gonzalez confirmed that the fire was caused by an electrical failure: “There was no fight, there was no problem of any kind. Firefighters are working. The hypothesis is a short circuit, a failure; an unfortunate fact“, he assured.
Two of the injured are “very compromised” in health, confirmed the hierarch. There are two who were transferred to the National Burn Center while the other wounded remains sedated and intubated.
“It is a regrettable fact, very sad for everyone. Everything was done and is being done so that people’s health and life can prevail. There is not much to say when these events occur because there were no confrontations, they were not burned. Outside, there was no problem as sometimes happens in prisons. It is a regrettable fact, “he added.
“The police could not do something because it was sad to avoid it. Because one can avoid a confrontation, one can avoid a fight, one can avoid anything. One cannot avoid a short circuit, because it is an accident,” he said.
