SANTO DOMINGO.- Two prison officers were released this afternoon who had been held Tuesday morning at the El Pinito Correction and Rehabilitation Center, in La Vega, by seven prisoners who demanded their transfer to an unreformed facility.
The information was offered by the General Directorate of Penitentiary and Correctional Services (DGSPC) who reported that according to the preliminary report, the incident was resolved peacefully with the intervention of an agent from the High Risk Transfer Unit (UTAR). and the highest authorities of the DGSPC.
Víctor José Acero Vicente, deputy director of security at the center, and the agent in charge, Yancarlo Salvador Carvajal, were making a round in module 5 of the CCR, around 10:30 in the morning, when they were ambushed and kidnapped by the seven inmates who freed them near from 1:00 in the afternoon.

The prisoners involved in the kidnapping of the VTP agents are serving coercive measures for different crimes while one is serving a 20-year prison sentence.
The Public Ministry of La Vega launched an investigation and will file charges for kidnapping against all those involved.
The DGSPC regretted the fact and valued the intervention of the prosecutor’s office and the staffing of the La Vega National Police.
