Two PDI officials thwarted a trap in Providencia and one of them was shot

Two Franco officials from the Investigative Police (PDI) frustrated early Friday morning -at about 1:20 a.m.- a trap against him on Tobalaba avenue, in the Providencia commune, Metropolitan Region. One of the assailants shot one of the police officers.

According to the head of the Oriente Prefecture, Julio Caro, both officials were in a vehicle, which was parked. In this context, four individuals got out of a white car carrying firearms.

The individuals intimidated the PDI troops. At that moment the exchange of shots began.

One of the subjects shot one of the officials in his left arm. Subsequently, he underwent surgery at the Carabineros Hospital. He is out of life risk.

An individual who could be linked to the attempted trap arrived at the Hospital del Profesor. “At this moment he is suffering from a gunshot wound and for this reason we are in the process of being able to link the individual to the site of the event,” said the head of the Oriente Prefecture.

According to instructions from the Eastern Prosecutor’s Office, the Homicide Brigade and the Eastern Metropolitan Robbery Brigade were in charge of the investigation.
