Two out of three Argentines lost income due to inflation

Frustration and pessimism are today part of the majority feeling of Argentines due to the persistence of the evil that most worries and tends to worsen over time: inflation, which is estimated to have exceeded 5% last month.

The salary update that the different unions carry out with agreements that are already around 60% seems to be out of date as soon as the following official data is known. And the informal sector, in which a large part of the Argentine economy moves, watches with alarm the projections of evolution in the Consumer Price Index that already exceed 70% per year, according to private consultants.

The data comes from the latest installment of the Social and Political Humor Monitor that D’Alessio Irol/Berensztein produces exclusively for El Cronista. The survey, carried out last month online with 1,030 adults throughout the country, reflected that the negative evaluation of the present and the economic future persists, but also marked a general feeling of loss of income in the face of advancing inflation.

Indeed, that perception crosses the entire political spectrum. In fact, while 75% of the respondents who voted for Together for Change in the last election expressed themselves in this way and 77% of those who voted for libertarian candidates, so did one out of every two voters of the ruling party, 54% of those who opted for the left and 67% of those who did so for other forces.

And the outlook does not improve for next year. Only 4 out of 10 voters of the Front of All expect to have gains, while a majority 45% only plan to stay. The figures drop to 11% and 38%, respectively, among JxC followers and 13% and 26% among libertarians. In both forces, the prevailing view is that income will continue to lose to inflation (49% in JxC and 61% libertarians).

Inflation continues to be the main concern for 92% of those surveyed, followed by uncertainty in the country’s economic situation, which reaches 75%, insecurity 70% and not seeing reasonable proposals to achieve economic growth 55%. Impunity in acts of corruption during the Kirchner government climbs to 89% of the libertarians consulted and 84% of JxC; while the same concern but referring to the macrista government is marked by 53% of the voters surveyed from the FdT and 54% from the left. The contrast is replicated in the reading about the economic situation. While for 60% of those who voted for the FdT and 56% of those who voted for the left it has improved compared to last year, for 95% of JxC and 96% of libertarians they consider it to be more negative.
