Two new sexist murders were confirmed this Wednesday by independent feminist platforms I do believe you and Tense wings, which brings the total to 35 so far this year.
One of the victims is Liudmila Álvarez Coll, who was attacked by her partner on October 6 in her home, in the municipality of Manzanillo, in the Granma province, the activists say. In addition, they point out that “clear information is needed from the authorities about the whereabouts of the aggressor.”
The other case that they have verified is that of Noralis Estenoz, who died on October 5, allegedly at the hands of her ex-partner, in her home in the Havana municipality of La Lisa.

“We demand that the authorities make a statement regarding the capture of the aggressor, who fled,” they emphasize, and ask for “citizen support to complete the information about this case.”
Likewise, they report five attempted femicides in the annual count and say that they are currently investigating three cases that require access to police investigation in the provinces of Santiago de Cuba, Villa Clara (1) and Camagüey (1).
Before these last two cases, the death of Yamila Zayas Toledo, 35 years old, was made public, who on September 26 was murdered by her ex-partner in the Jagüey Grande municipality, Matanzas province.
Prior to that date, the aforementioned platforms verified the femicide of Dayli Acosta Oceguera, 24 years old, who disappeared from September 22 to 26, when her body was found in Lenin Park in Havana.
Tense Wings and I do believe you in Cuba recently pointed out “the trend towards greater violence against women’s bodies, which is demonstrated with aggravating circumstances in a growing number of cases.”
Both platforms, which keep a record of verified femicides and have contributed to shining a spotlight on these events, reported 54 cases of this type last year.
For their part, Cuban authorities confirmed that the courts identified a total of 76 women murdered by their partners, ex-partners or other people in trials held last year. In trials in 2023, 110 victims were registered.
In the Cuban Penal Code, feminicide is not classified as a specific crime and the use of the terms “feminicide” or “sexist crime” is not common in state media, although they have recently used the term “feminicide.”
