Two mountaineers die after falling more than 40 meters while climbing the Huaytapallana snow (VIDEO)

One of them fell and pulled the other, “they passed (by our side) at high speed, they went for an opening and fell off the cliff, there were rocks on the other side, we tried to go down fast but they crashed into the rocks and died immediately. We went down to help them but there was nothing to do”, is the story of Freud Baldeón Jara, leader of the mountaineers who, before tears overcame him, narrated how he saw two of his companions die.

According to Freud Baldeón, together with seven members of his club, they decided to climb the snowy peak at 6:30 in the morning, they walked 12 hours uphill when two men fell down a 40-meter slope.

Pablo Cueva Carhuarupay (54) and Samael Salazar Pautrat (34), members of the Huancayo High Mountain Club, lost their lives when they fell while climbing one of the highest mountains of Huaytapallana.

The head of the Huancayo Provincial Criminal Prosecutor’s Office, Jhanet Karina Santana Orihuela, personnel from the Oficri PNP and the Huancayo police station arrived at the scene, however the rescue efforts were going to be complicated and extremely dangerous given the weather factors and the distance and rugged in the area that required specialized personnel in high mountains and a work of more than 8 hours to recover the bodies.

The mountaineers have decided to stay because they point out that they would be unable to leave their dead companions and assure that they will wait there for the arrival of the personnel who will get them out of the place.
