Two miners trapped in the El Callao mine are rescued alive

The continued efforts to rescue the three miners boarded up in one of the cylinders of the 4 Esquinas mine in the Caratal sector in the El Callao municipality, resulted in the rescue of two miners alive and one deceased.

The survivors were identified as Yerluis Montilla (32) and Yorwin Aguilera (29), while the fatal victim was named Ronger Montilla (30) and his body was transferred to the forensic service center in El Callao.

According to the official report of the Operational Zone for Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (Zoedan), it was a collapse that collapsed the cylinder that was 7 meters deep with an extension of 3 meters of galleries that interconnected other cylinders or mining wells.

This mine was located just 20 meters from the place where, on October 13, another 13 miners lost their lives, after being trapped in 3 cylinders, as a result of the heavy rains that hit the town.

The search remains

Regarding the collapse of the mine on October 13, the search for the last walled-in miner remains in order to complete the recovery work of the 13 bodies that were submerged in mud and water more than 50 meters deep.

In this case, artisanal miners remain day after day, this with the accompaniment of the Minerven emergency control team and local firefighters, they have already located the last body, this according to the story of the miners who were able to observe “a boot and the torso of the miner”, but the instability of the terrain has prevented the extraction.
