Two drowned children die when they are dragged by the heavy rains recorded in Diriamba

The heavy rains caused the death of two children aged 5 and 7, in the Diriamba municipality, department of Carazo. The tragedy occurred on the afternoon of August 29, after both minors fell into a riverbed located in the 35/19 neighborhood when they were on their way home after leaving school.

The bodies of the children were found on Monday night, after police officers, the Unified Fire Department and the Silais de Diriamba, with the help of residents of the sector, began a search for the minors, finding them more than four kilometers away from the where they fell into the riverbed.

According to information from official media, the minors had just finished class when they prepared to cross the five-meter-deep natural riverbed, whose currents were swollen by heavy rains that fell in the area. Both were reported missing around one in the afternoon on Monday, so the search and rescue plan was activated to try to find the children, but as the hours passed, the chances of life were fading.

The six-year-old girl was in the third level of preschool and the boy was in second grade, both at Los Conejitos school. After recovering the body of the minor, it was transferred to a nearby house where the police arrived together with the technical team to investigate the details of this tragedy.

Recently, the Nicaraguan Institute of Territorial Studies (Ineter) reported that heavy rains are expected this week due to the presence of a tropical wave that will be influencing the Caribbean coast, to later give way to tropical wave number 30 that will arrive on the east coast. Weekend.

In her customary speech to official media, Rosario Murillo said that “when there is heavy rain, the Ministry of Education, the teachers, the educators cannot let the children leave the classrooms alone, that older people arrive to go with them back to their homes and their families.

Members of the General Directorate of Firefighters have warned parents about the risks that minors run when bathing in the rain without parental supervision or crossing dangerous currents, mainly when they are in areas near riverbeds due to the force of the currents.
