Two Dominicans arrested in the Colombian Caribbean with a stash of cocaine and marijuana

Bogotá.- Colombian authorities seized 367 kilos of cocaine and 14 kilos of marijuana in the waters of the department of La Guajira, and arrested two Dominican citizens who were transporting the shipment in a speedboat, the Navy reported on Saturday.

The operation was carried out 16 nautical miles from Cabo de la Vela, explained the commander of the Santa Marta Coast Guard Station, Lieutenant Commander Jorge Carvajal.

The boat, the cargo and the captured individuals were taken to a safe port, where agents from the Technical Investigation Corps (CTI of the Attorney General’s Office) performed chemical tests that confirmed that there were 367 kilograms of cocaine and 14 of marijuana.

The two detainees who were on board the motor vessel were placed at the disposal of the competent authority. The Colombian Navy, the Colombian Air Force and Army troops participated in the operation to seize the shipment.

According to the Navy, this seizure prevented the sale of more than 900,000 doses of narcotics on the streets of the world.

Between January and August of this year, more than 567 tons of cocaine and 339 tons of marijuana have been seized, according to figures from the Ministry of Defense, which meant an increase of 20% and 23% compared to last year.
