Hoy Paraguay

The authorities had initially reported that the incident that occurred at noon in the tourist city in the western United States had left one dead and five injured.

The victims are “tourists and locals,” said Sheriff Joe Lombardo, in a brief statement to the media.

One of the people attacked died on the sidewalk.

All the injured were taken to local hospitals, police said. One of them died in the medical center, raising the death toll of the attack, while three others are in critical condition.

No name, age or personal information of the victims were revealed by the authorities that opened an investigation into the case.

“The first incident occurred on the sidewalk and appears to have been unprovoked, there was no prior confrontation,” Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Detective James LaRochelle said.

“The suspect is a 30-year-old Hispanic man,” LaRochelle said. Authorities believe that he is not a resident of the community.

After the attack, the suspect would have left the scene running but was intercepted and taken into custody, the officer added, showing security camera video of the moment after the attack.

The weapon used was a long knife, he said.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police received “a report of a multi-victim stabbing attack outside a casino in the 3100 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard.”

The scene of the incident, close to huge entertainment centers such as the Wynn Las Vegas and The Venetian, was cordoned off and there was a massive police presence at noon.

Images broadcast on local television shortly after showed the action of medical teams attending to the victims, as well as the empty streets of the busy boulevard.

Part of the traffic was reopened in the middle of the afternoon.
