Miami, United States. – Two people died and at least six were injured this Thursday during a shooting at the Campus of the Florida State University (FSU), for its acronym), for its acronym), for As the authorities confirmed. The attacker was identified as Phoenix Ikner, a 20 -year -old student and son of an agent of the Sheriff Leon County (Florida).
The incident occurred near noon, when the first shots were reported on the campus. At 3:30 pm, the University reported that “the threat had been neutralized,” although several buildings continued to be considered active crime scenes.
According to officials at a press conference, Ikner used a firearm that belonged to his mother, a school security officer in a local secondary school. The aggressor was killed by lifeguards in the place and transferred to the Hospital Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare (TMH).
“This is a tragic day for Florida State University,” said the president of the institution, Richard McCullough. “We are absolutely devastated by this violence.”
The TMH Health Center, a level II trauma hospital, reported that it had received six patients linked to the incident. “Everyone is in stable condition,” the hospital said in a statement. “Our trauma teams are providing the highest level of care to all patients.”
The attack coincided with the realization of the “United Against Hate” event on the Campus, aimed at promoting security and remembering Maura Binkley, a FSU student killed in 2018 in another shooting in a Yoga studio in Tallahassee.
Several students who were on the campus at the time of the shooting offered their testimonies to the environment Tallahasse democrat. Following the shooting, the university suspended all its academic and administrative activities until Friday and canceled the sporting events of the weekend. The students were urged to inform their relatives about their status and avoid the affected areas, including the Student Union and several nearby buildings.
The last shooting registered in the FSU occurred in 2014, when an alumnus opened fire in the Strozier library and wounded three people before being killed by the police.
