Two dead and four missing leaves a storm in Lake Maracaibo

Two workers from an oil contractor died during the early hours of this Thursday and four are missing in the waters of Lake Maracaibo, after a barge sank as a result of the strong storm that hit Zulia this Wednesday.

The 25 crew members of the “Chantase G” vessel of the company Sosca, a PDVSA contractor, were carrying out work near Block 1, in the Tía Juana municipality, south of Chevron, when the entry of water through the stern was reported due to to strong waves, causing the sinking.

Two boats were activated to support the search efforts and upon reaching the site they were able to pull 19 workers alive from the waters; Two of them were unconscious, presumed drowned, and there are four others who are missing.

The names of the deceased and missing were not specified in a first report.

The company PDVSA issued a statement regretting the event and indicated that a High Level Investigation Committee was activated to determine the causes of the accident and provide all necessary support to the families of the victims, to whom they extended their condolences for this unfortunate accident, according to the document. issued by the oil company.

The crew of the sunken unit did work with 7×7 guards for the Sosca company and was made up of: motorcyclists Franklin Tua, Henry Martínez and Eduardo Balbuena; the mechanic Onidenia Cárdenas; the cook and kitchen assistant respectively Joe García and Kevin Hernández.

Also belonging to the crew were supervisor José Chirinos, foreman Carlos Seco, Wilfredo Camacaro, SIHO supervisor; Erwin Vásquez, Operations; and the welders Edgar Urrieta, Richard Querales and Enrique Lujano.

Also working on the barge were the crane operator Juan Noroño, the shipowners Armando León and Efrain Colina, as well as the workers Denny Roa, Reny Colmenares, Manuel Sánchez and Ronald Medina.
