Havana/An accident in the blind of Ávila this Tuesday left at least two dead and a serious injury. According to users In social networksthe incident took place on the Central Highway, at noon, in the section that goes from the city of Ciego de Ávila to Jicotea, when they collided a car and a cart.
The fatal victims, according to several relatives, are Reybis Díaz Peña and his wife, Betty Díaz Ramos, residents in the town of Guayacanes. One of his three children, Reisel, who was traveling with them in the car, suffered serious injuries and, according to the same comments, had to be surgically intervened.
It is not known for the moment if there are more injured involved, or how the accident occurred. The official press has not spoken about it. In the images shared on Facebook, police officers and a dozen witnesses are observed surrounding the wrecked vehicles.
The deceased, their relatives said, were buried this Wednesday in their locality.
This is the second fatal accident that occurs in the province in a little more weeks. The morning of last Monday, January 20, two Yutong bus that transported state workers collided at the exit of Morón, on the road to the island of Turiguanó. The serious incident left an official balance of seven dead and more than 50 injured.
Although the Cuban government has reported a decrease in traffic accidents in 2024 –7.507 compared to 8,556 registered the previous year–, the Minister of Transportation itself, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, acknowledged that “the deterioration accumulates” around roads and vehicles.
