The deadline for major leagues left a wave of movements this Thursday. The teams combed the market in search of the pieces that most adjusted to their needs and entered the fiercest negotiations to achieve their objectives. Several names of Cuban players were on the table as possible candidates for movements, but finally only two changed organization.
Interestingly, Luis Robert Jr., Adolis García, Yandy Díaz or Raisel Iglesias, the Antillians who sounded the most in recent weeks as potential candidates to be exchanged, ended up staying in their respective novenas and there were others who made the suitcases. We talk about left -hander Néstor Cortés and Kendrys Rojas, who now belong to San Diego and Minnesota, respectively.
Cortés, a reputation starter for his years with the Yankees, was exchanged from the Brewers to the parents, where he will assume a role in the rotation once he finishes his recovery of an injury that has kept him away from the hill since the beginning of April.
The shooter made his last opening in the largest on April 3 and shortly after he was diagnosed with a distension of the flexor of the left elbow. The lousy news came after a consistent departure in which the left -hander withdrew six white entries with just one Jit in his account against the Cincinnati Reds.
That was only his second presentation with the Brewers, who had acquired it in mid -December 2024 from the Yankees, in a change that had as a central axis the closer Devin Williams. The deadline for changes arrived, the Brewers sought to lighten their rotation of openings, in which the rookie Jacob Misiorowski has broken with great force. In addition, they achieved the change by Aaron Civale from the White Sox and the stellar Brandon Woodruff has made its first openings after a prolonged injury time.
These factors pushed Cortés directly to the market and the parents activated their mechanisms to take it to San Diego, where Dylan Cease, Nick Pivetta, Randy Vásquez, Yu Darvish and, later, Michael King, as part of a rotation that has been, for now, the lowest point of the team in 2025. It has launched 18 innings, with 18 strikeouts and effectiveness of 1.00.
Cortés will join the Cuban also Cuban Adrián Morejón in San Diego, one of the most important pieces of the parents’ relief body, which has the best bullpen of the season. They will be crucial in the aspirations to dethrone the Dodgers in the race for the west flag of the old circuit and to advance to the postseason.
Kendrys Rojas, closer to the big leagues
The other Cuban who had to pack on this deadline for changes was the Serpentinero Kendrys Rojas, who belonged to the Toronto Blue Jays and now passed to the Minnesota Twins.
This course, the 22 -year -old left -handed has moved by four different levels of minor leagues, in which he has made 11 exits, with 41.2 work innings and 62 strikeouts. Its ability to withdraw the batters through the Strikes has been impressive, as evidenced by its rate of 13.4 structured by every nine entries. In addition, he has given only nine tickets.
Rojas arrives on the Twins as part of an exchange in which the Blue Jays took the services of the reliever Louis Varland and the initialist Ty France. At the outset, it has been assigned to Triple-A, so it would not be strange if you receive a call to major leagues before the end of the season.
