The swimmers Cubans Elisbet Gámez and Rodolfo Falcón Jr. will represent the Island in the Short Course World Championship, which will take place in Melbourne, Australia, from December 13 to 18.
Gámez and Falcón Jr. will each participate in two events, following what is stipulated by the International Sports Federation for each competitor, in accordance with informed by the national commissioner, Nelson García, to the digital site Hit.
The young man from Havana will swim the 800 and 1,500 free meters, while the girl from Baracoa, currently the main figure in Cuban swimming, has yet to decide whether she will swim the 100 and 200 meters of her own style, or the 200 and 400, in which it was initially registered, specifies the publication.

“I’ll try to do my best,” said Gámez, who revealed his intention to seek national records in the shorter tests. However, she assured that the decision would be made with the consideration of her coach Luisa María Mojarrieta.
The Cuban, who is on a scholarship from the International Swimming Federation in Thailand, recently had an outstanding performance in the national championship of that Asian nation. There she won five gold medals and one bronze, and broke the records of the Island in the 50 (25.82 seconds) and 100 meters (55.14) freestyle.
“I can have a better performance in the 100 and 200 meters. The training I do here is more for speed than for the middle distance. I also achieved, in the 100, the B mark for the world championship”, pointed out the swimmer from Thailand, where she, she affirms, feels “super” and “everything is going well at the moment”.
Four other Cubans, including Rodolfo Falcón Jr., will be days before the Short Course World Cup at the 1st Central American and Caribbean Sea and Beach Games in Santa Marta 2022, in Colombia, scheduled for November 19-26.
Andrea Becali and Dainé Pedré will be the girls for Cuba, while Falcón Jr. will be accompanied by Jonathan Pérez, all participants last July in the I Caribbean Games in Guadeloupe 2022, in accordance with Hit.
The four athletes will compete individually in the three and five kilometers of open water, as well as in the mixed event on November 24, 25 and 26, points out the sports publication, according to which, for this they are currently training together with the rest of the Cuban team at the Baraguá Swimming Pool Complex, in Havana.
