MADRID, Spain.- The second baseman of the Villa Clara team, Magdiel Alfredo Gómez, and the Guantanamo pitcher Alexander Valiente, left the National Baseball Series in recent days.
In the case of the man from Villa Clara, it is because he will leave Cuba soon, confirmed the manager of his team, Ramón Moré.
Magdiel Alfredo Gómez was involved in six national series, leaving three homers, eight triples and 22 doubles; with a batting average of .251.
In the case of Alexander Valiente, it is due to “personal problems”, according to his statements.
“I am requesting withdrawal from the team and I decide not to continue playing baseball for now. Please, do not ask me for explanations, I only decide it due to personal problems,” said the 20-year-old.
The right-handed pitcher, who has participated in two seasons of the National Series, also indicated that he is waiting for the authorities’ decision.
According to the Indios del Guaso Facebook page, the baseball player allegedly had a problem with the team’s management and became disenchanted by all the problems in Guantánamo and Cuba.
“We keep losing young people and nobody does anything. They justify everything with the fact that the country is going through an economic crisis and that the blockade blah, blah, blah (…) Please, give all your attention to the athlete, commit him, give him prospects of something that they can play for love and at the same time be able to satisfy your needs. We all already have the internet and we see the contracts of thousands of dollars to the players, ”says the publication.
In 2020, Alexander Valiente was on the preliminary list of the Cuban baseball talent group, prepared by the National Commission for this sport. He was a member of several U-23 national teams. This year he participated in the Caribbean seriesin Venezuela, with the Farmers team.
