Two children aged 8 and 11 drowned in a deep well in Huancayo (VIDEO)

Two children, ages 8 and 11, drowned in a pool more than four meters deep, formed in the Mantaro River, in the district of San Jerónimo de Tunán (Huancayo).

According to local information, the children had gotten together with a group of friends and, presumably, decided to go to the place to swim. However, two of them submerged more than necessary and could not get out.

Although the circumstances under which the minors entered the pool are being investigated, relatives of the victims denounced that it was formed by informal excavations carried out near the Mantaro riverbed.

Both bodies were found by rescuers from the Huancayo PNP Emergency Squad. The bodies were transferred to the Hualhuas district morgue.

The case shocked the entire district of San Jerónimo de Tunán and the authorities are required to block access to the well to avoid further tragedies.
