Two cases of hired killers heading for oblivion

Hoy Paraguay

On Sunday, September 12, at about 8:00 p.m., businessman Mauricio Schwartzman (52) arrived at his home located in the Jara neighborhood of Asunción, got out of his truck, and when he was about to enter his home, a hitman armed with a pistol 9 mm opened fire and killed him with several shots.

On September 28 at 5:00 a.m., Navy Captain Humberto Ismael Fleitas (49) was leaving his house located in the San Miguel de San Lorenzo neighborhood on his way to his military unit and a few blocks away he was intercepted by a car from which three men who shot him.

Both cases, which occurred only two weeks apart, were classified by the then Minister of the Interior, Arnaldo Giuzzio, as isolated events, pointing out that the military man’s murder occurred a few blocks from his residence.

Apparently the two crimes would not be related, but what does unite these bloody acts is that at the investigative level the two are on page zero.

No significant progress was made in any of the cases. The prosecutorial and police teams tasked with clarifying the murders only referred to questioning the environment of both families and some other irrelevant diligence.

Despite the fact that the two cases were recorded by closed circuits, until today it was not possible to identify the assassins, nor were there any raids or arrests.

In the case of Schwartzman, perhaps a little more data was available since in December when the name of Luis Arza became known for being the alleged mastermind of a scam scheme that left a trail of victims, among whom was Ramón González Daher. , from whom they took US$ 10 million, appeared

an audio in which González Daher is heard talking to a woman who would be Giovanna de Arza, wife of Luis and in the middle of the claim that Ramón made to the woman, she tells him that her husband is missing after having been threatened with death for him.

The woman tells him that she heard when González Daher told her husband to answer for the money he took from her if he did not want to end up as

Mauricio Schwartzman and that, fearing for his life, Luis Arza fled.

However, the investigators never investigated the veracity of this accusation made by Giovanna de Arza to González Daher. What was known is that Schwartzman and Ramón were acquaintances and business partners.

Some 20 checks belonging to the sports businessman were found in the possession of González Daher and that the amounts were very high. Schwartzman owed Ramón a large amount of money, but the relationship between the two does not end there. It was also learned that Mauricio was a witness for González Daher in a trial that Ramón brought against businessman Juan Planas.

Many facts that were relating the two were never investigated to find out if it was true that Ramón told Luis Arza’s wife that an end identical to Mauricio’s awaited him. Could it be that González Daher had something to do with that murder or at least knew who could have carried it out?

The military

In the case of Ship Captain Humberto Fleitas, the issue is much darker, since no one talked about it, the reason for the tragic end is not known, what was known is that it was not the first time they had dealt with to kill the uniformed man. Months before the crime, the soldier had already been ambushed by several men who wanted to kill him, but Fleitas realized the fact and managed to escape.

The complaint was made, but it was framed as an attempted robbery, but after September 28 it was learned that it was not an attempted robbery, but a contract killing that did not materialize, so the murderers returned a second time. time and now they did not fail.

Fleitas, was chief of staff of the Navy Arsenal of the Paraguayan Navy, comrades and subordinates of the military classify him as a person of integrity, with an impeccable record of service, which earned him to occupy such an important position.

But, the day after the Fleitas crime, the widow went to remove the belongings of the Ship Captain from the bedroom he had in the Navy. She took clothes, shoes and found US$37,800 in a box. The origin of the money and why Fleitas had it in his cabin and not in his house or in a bank are questions that nobody could say, even the widow herself said she did not know about the money.

Humberto Fleitas, was murdered by hitmen a few blocks from his house six months ago and so far there are no elements that lead those under investigation to find those responsible, nor is the motive for the crime known. The basic procedures were carried out in these events, calling the victim’s relatives and co-workers to testify and since then the case has been without incident.

Mauricio Schwartzman and Humberto Fleitas died in similar circumstances just weeks apart, and their case is headed toward oblivion.

The entrance Two cases of hired killers heading for oblivion was first published in diary TODAY.
