Havana/Two ministers of Brazil and the highest authorities of the Government of Cuba opened their first bilateral forum on public policies, focused on social protection, sovereignty and food and nutritional security on Havana, food and nutritional security, State media reported.
The Brazilian delegation in the appointment is headed by the holders of Agrarian Development and Family Agriculture, Paulo Teixeira, and of Social Development and Assistance, Family and Fight against Hunger, Wellington Dias. The Brazilian Agency for the Brazilian Agency for Cooperation and representative of the Brazilian Ministry, Ruy Carlos Pereira, also integrates the Brazilian part.
At the opening, the prime minister, Manuel Marrero, advocated multiplying the collaboration between the two countries, with priority in areas such as security, sovereignty and food self -sufficiency; Nutrition and health; science and innovation; Urban, suburban and family agriculture; Agroecology and Agrarian Extensionism.
Marrero also considered this “fundamental” bilateral forum for political dialogue, the exchange of experiences between Cuba and Brazil, as well as “the construction of synergies”
“We are certain that the food sovereignty of our countries requires the joint participation of all organizational forces, resources and structures, linked to this strategic and decisive mission for the well -being of all peoples,” Marrero stressed.
Food security is currently at risk in Cuba, which suffers a deep crisis for more than five years with shortage of basic products such as food, running water, medications, light and fuel.
Marrero also considered this “fundamental” bilateral forum for political dialogue, the exchange of experiences between Cuba and Brazil, as well as “the construction of synergies” that strengthen the alliance between the two countries, within the framework of southern cooperation.
At the meeting, scheduled until Wednesday, work tables dedicated to the analysis of policies, programs and the management of National Systems for Social Protection, Sovereignty and Food and Nutrition Security will be held.
Cuba and Brazil maintain bilateral cooperation in sectors such as health, biotechnology, agriculture, commerce and energy, as well as in humanitarian assistance and the reactivation of infrastructure projects.
Both countries have collaborated in doctors, medication development and natural disaster help, strengthening their collaboration through South-South cooperation and international forums.
