Guillermo González and Derbys Rodríguez, air traffic controllers of the National Institute of Civil Aeronautics (Inac), are currently prosecuted for disclosing confidential state information, reported the Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab.
Guillermo González was arrested on May 21, after posting confidential information on his Twitter account that put the nation’s security at risk. Saab explained that González revealed photographs and videos referring to aircraft, both civil and military, some that were carrying out state missions when they arrived or were preparing to take off, from the Air Traffic Control Tower of the Simón Bolívar international airport in Maiquetía, state La Guaira, to which he had access due to his work.
Meanwhile, Derbys Rodríguez, who is being prosecuted for his alleged involvement with González in these illegal actions, had on his phone an operational report from the Venezuelan air navigation services, images of spaces at the Simón Bolívar international airport, reviews of the functions and air traffic management.
The attorney general said that this information had been shared with a third party via email in September 2019.
González was accused by the Public Ministry for the crimes of disclosure of confidential information, terrorism and association; while Rodríguez for disclosure of confidential information and association.
The corresponding court admitted the accusation against both drivers and ordered their trial, which is currently in the evidence evacuation phase.
“When someone assumes a profession and it is due to an institution that is part of an entity as sensitive as that of civil aeronautics, where its duty is to protect secrets or confidential activities for the good of the nation, violating them would imply attacking all professional ethics and also the own laws of the Republic”, concluded the head of the Public Ministry.
