Havana Cuba. – Political prisoners Walfrido Rodríguez Piloto and José Eduardo Jardines Rodríguez, protesters on July 11 (11J), declared themselves on hunger strike this Thursday after learning of their prison sentences of ten and seven years, respectively.
“They asked me for nine years and they gave me ten. From this moment I am in starvation due to the abuse of power of these people, due to interference [en la justicia] and due to lack of medical assistance,” Rodríguez Piloto denounced in a telephone conversation with CubaNet from the Valle Grande prison.
As he explained, this Wednesday the authorities confirmed his sentence of 10 years in prison for participating in the July 11 demonstration. Nevertheless, the trial against him occurred on April 18.
“I am going to die in my cell because of this sanction that is imputed to me, because State Security put in its powerful tentacles. It is inconceivable that they ask me for nine years (…) and now they give me 10 years, ”he denounced.
The opponent also assured that José Eduardo Jardines Rodríguez, who is also being held in Valle Grande, declared himself on a hunger strike in protest against his seven-year prison sentence.
“I’m going to the cell with Walfrido because those sentences are very unfair,” Jardines Rodríguez confirmed to CubaNet.
the judgment
Rodríguez Piloto had been accused of the alleged crimes of “possession of weapons and explosive materials”, “public disorder” and “disrespect”.
“The trial was rigged by State Security: the first thing they did was put me an interview he did to me CubaNet after July 11 where I count the spontaneity of the demonstration among other things, but they [los agentes del régimen] against me they had no evidence of anything, “he said.
Likewise, he explained that another of the arguments used by the regime to prosecute him for these crimes was having shouted “Homeland and Life”, among other protest phrases.
“We shouted ‘Patria y Vida’, we asked for milk for the children, beef, and I made it clear to the judge that I was against the government, but that my opposition is peaceful,” he clarified.
Similarly, he explained that the witnesses used by the Prosecutor’s Office were police officers who repressed the protesters.
“At all times the Police said that I had nothing in my hands; however, it was in vain, ”she lamented.
