Twenty years of a classic: Audioslave

Audioslave

Havana Cuba. – On November 19, 2002, the band Audioslave made its debut with the self-titled album and a luxury lineup led by the unforgettable Chris Cornell, ex-vocalist of the band grunge Soundgarden, and guitarist Tom Morello, founder of Rage Against the Machine (RATM), one of the most successful groups of the 1990s, dissolved in 2000.

Inscribed in the line of alternative rock, Audioslave amalgamated the rock hard with metal sounds, contributions of funk and virtuous guitar solos. To the surprise of the critics, the group did not result in a mimetic combination of RATM and Soundgarden, but rather broke into the changing rock scene at the beginning of the new millennium with an innovative proposal in which various styles came together, enhanced by one of the most beautiful and powerful in the history of the genre.

The Audioslave album became a classic thanks mainly to the hit like a stone; but other issues like Show me how to live, I am the Highway Y Cochisealso became very popular and demanded by the public in each presentation of the band.

With a consolidated label and on an unprecedented night, Audioslave offered a massive concert in Havana on May 6, 2005, becoming the first American group to play on the island. Simply Red, Grave, air supply, The Rolling Stones, suicidal tendencies and others; but those three hours with the privilege of seeing and listening to Chris Cornell helped to partly settle an old debt with Cuban rock lovers, particularly the grunge and the alternate.

Although the debt remains immense, Audioslave’s performance in Havana was so tremendous that the band’s first DVD was titled Live in Cuba, with more than two hours duration. Several songs from the debut album, which is turning 20 today, were performed that night by the immeasurable Chris Cornell, who was accompanied by thousands of voices and hearts on a journey that also included songs by Soundgarden and Rage Against The Machine, because that audience he wanted it all, and maybe there wouldn’t be a second chance.
