The Emergency Operations Center (COE) placed this Friday twelve provinces on alert for possible flooding of rivers, streams, ravines and flash floods, due to a trough that will affect the country during the next 24 to 48 hours.
The provinces under green alert are Monte Plata, Hato Mayor, San Cristóbal, Sánchez Ramírez, San Pedro de Macorís, María Trinidad Sánchez, Greater Santo Domingo, Duarte, La Vega, Monsignor Nouel, Espaillat and Mirabal Sisters.
Juan Manuel Mendez, director of the COErecommended that people refrain from crossing rivers, streams and ravines that have a high volume of water or use spas in the provinces under alert.
While the National Meteorology Office reported that during the afternoon and night of this Friday there will be occasional increases in cloudiness with isolated showers and possible thunderstorms over some towns in the southeast, southwest, the Central Cordillera and the border area.
